Wheatley, Arkansas | Are you wanting to ridge till or plant on beds? Two very different practices.
I'm not too familiar with ridgetill, but have planted a lot on beds.
For ridging, hipping, rowing, or bedding ground there are two widely accepted practices.
Some run bedder-rollers, a roller with middle buster type shanks in the front that make a flat planting surface with furrows every so many inches depending on your row spacing.
Some run hippers that have opposing disks throwing dirt together to form a ridge/bed, followed by a do-all, bed knocker, or soil conditioner to flatten the top so it can be planted on.
Both work well, with IMO the disk bedders being the best in heavy clay/gumbo type soils however they are more expensive to maintain, and require an additional trip with another tool to level the tops off. | |
