For daily use open is by far the best since you'll get it muddy and much easier to clean off an open trailer. If you're using it in weekend warrior mode then enclosed would be nice to keep it out of the elements when it's in "storage" during extended non-use. All depends. Simple 12' well built single axle is all you need. Here's how mine is set up with modifications for daily crop consulting and then soil sampling in fall. Tows very well but truck mileage still sucks when towing anything.


That's the kind of trailer I had first, but daily pulling it on gravel roads and turn rows with the weight of a gator with a 25 gallon spray tank in the back bent the axle in the center.
