Chaffee, Western New York
Here in NY EMT is in demand and most companies will pay you to get it and paid it is an employment requirement (annoying as there's 20+ year EMTs with Homeland security who have never run a call/touched a patient).

Next step up requires another round of training to Intermediate or Advanced IEMT/AEMT. This in NY let's you start lines and tube. Almost no pay premium and once you make contact..... only can hand off to higher level. Almost all companies pay for this training...but not the time to do it.

Paramedics are 2 years start to finish so almost the same time as working your way up from the bottom. Pay increase. If you're not broken (bad back, obesity, mentally broken) and have a great reputation then flight medic is the goal. (No one stays there for long). I don't know if anything outside of the Tribal (casino) that will pay you to get the training and then you need the right bloodlines for that. Yes it helps to make the right connections to get a state fire job or better yet a job selling Zole or medical equipment.

If he's looking to work structure fires, industrial fire, fire protection .... being a medic is going to lock him in the bus (and probably leave him back broken and mentally..).

National Register EMT should get him a foot in the door anywhere.
