Northeast Missouri | Just got back from checking a stand of triticale, crimson clover, and balansa clover (first time raising balansa).
Oddly, the balansa is being eaten just like it has alfalfa weevil. I didn't find any larvae or other bugs (also just like alfalfa--sometimes hard to find the weevil when the day is hot).
Anybody else seen this? Could alfalfa weevil also target balansa? (Notably, the crimson isn't eaten at all.)
Sorry, I didn't get a picture of the feeding damage, but it's top to bottom on the balansa. Only pics I have are from days ago, before the crimson began to decline, then later after the crimson was barely noticeable (flowers no longer red) and--in some parts of the field--the balansa appeared dominant.
EDIT: I zoomed in on the balansa photo and got an image that shows some of the feeding damage.
