It's done all the time. I have mine on a 2005 gmc 1500 shortbox. 7' plow on 1/2 tons.
Poly blade plows were heavier than my 7' new Hiniker at the time I bought mine new. I was told because of the frame work to support the poly made it over all heavier on the front of truck.
