western iowa,by Denison | 30cents head a day and mark your feed up 10%-charge for bedding, treatment of sick cattle at $3 head and chute charge if you are working them thru the chute
hand records of daily feed,a good scale that is certified on the feed wagon, and feed on time everyday,
We feed twice a day,and we want a commodity shed for feed, seems like open dump commodity bays rockets the feed use about 20% over a simple shed
A good rule of the thumb is you should have about $1 # feed cost with a 3# gain and should have 10% more on the #of gain(yardage)
100 head=300# of gain per day ($300) =yardage at $30 day
$4 corn is $4.40
$200 ton hay is $220
etc.
Good Luck it's fun and exciting business. I started custom feeding at 12cents, never did go over 30cents. | |
