Near-north Ontario, French River | What are you local roads like? If they are washboards, lots of pot holes etc,,, I'd go air-ride, anything but Kenworth 8bag.. you will regret that on a tandem. Now if your roads are decent I'd go with Hendrikson walking beam. Walking beam will get you superior tractor in the field BUT will ride rough when empty. Air ride will obviously ride smother but you will get tend to get stuck more in the field. For an tandem you dont need big HP either, 300-350 is more than enough. Try to find something with an 8LL transmission, very easy to learn, no splitting ( so easier for older or less experienced drivers), and VERY dependable. Try to get rear end ratio of at least 3.9.. 4.11 even better. Makes it super easy to get moving in soft conditions and good on the highway as well. |
