Agent Orange: Friendly fire that keeps on burning.

Going to a faster and standard way of communications and adopting a proven performer like Ethernet only makes sense. Say what you want about Musk, but if something makes sense, from an engineering standpoint, he will change things midstream to use it. The 12V control system we are using is getting old and out-moded. The new pickup will use a 48V control system. It is long past time for that to happen but it is a major deal to change it. For those who understand electricity, it is a much bigger deal than most would think. Quadrupling the voltage will reduce current needed to do the same work, by a factor of four but it gets even better than that. Resistance losses will decrease by 42 or 16 times less. Less copper, less weight, and less loss. It will take a market mover to get the suppliers on board though and Tesla just might be the one that can pull it off. Also, the traction motors will run on 800V, instead of 400V like the rest of the car fleet does. Same rules on conductor size and resistance apply but only 4 times less because the voltage has only doubled.
