Central Illinois
Not much to see in Decatur they are putting up tents at the farm progress show. I would go to Springfield and see the Lincoln sights the museum is well worth your time you would only be thirty miles east of Springfield short drive on interstate 72

You are right because the Kinze plant and the Amana Colonies are a few hours from Decatur. The original poster mentioned that he wanted to visit the Kinze plant. Also, they are not that far off the route to Kansas.

I was disappointed in the JD Pavilion, more new stuff than vintage stuff. There is a display of more vintage stuff at JD HQ building east of Moline.

The Wild Bill Cody museum at LaClaire Iowa also has a dry docked steam river dredge. The Herbert Hoover museums in West Branch can take up some time. The Truck Museum at Walcott can too. The Rock Island Arsenal Museum has lots of fire arms and manufacturing equipment. Getting into the Arsenal for the museum and the river locks can take a while.

Be careful in Decatur it's not that great of a place. Go see the lincoln museum in Springfield worth the drive.

Last time I was n Moline, went on a tour of everything with our Deere dealer, I liked the display at the headquarters better than the one at the pavilion. We also toured harvester works, the planter factory, and the warehouse. I'm surprised the tour all all booked up since you checked that far ahead. First time I went to Moline I called the day before for 4 of us and got right in.

live in Spfd, farm located NW Macoupin county
Chevrolet Hall of Fame in Mt. Zion- across the lake from Decatur on 36 is good for a couple of hours of viewing.

As others have mentioned, the Lincoln sites in Springfield are 40 miles to the west.

Farm Progress Show site is on the northeast corner of town as well as the ADM plants and CAT plants. Good for a drive by.

At the CAT plant, the truck out front is for public viewing and photo ops. Getting up close to it gives a perspective on how big some of the mining trucks are. The truck on display, a 785, was designed for a 150ton payload. The largest truck now being built at Decatur is rated for 400 ton payload.

Decatur is a war zone; like Gary indiana. This to see are drive by shootings, and mrs robberies, drug trafficKing and meth heads. Be careful where you go after dark.
