Subject: Hough H-90 wheel loader................

South Central Kansas
Anyone here had any experience with the Hough H 90 wheel loaders. There's one near here along the highway that has been sitting since the old fellow died a couple of years ago. I don't think it has been run for 4 or 5 years though.
Looks like it is all together yet, (no parts or pieces laying around). It has the Detroit V8 in it and is a Hough IH, not the Hough Dresser.
Shoud I run from this rig or see if I can get it running and buy it cheap. ($5,000 or so) I could sure find quite a few uses for one here on the farm. Seems like it would have moved if it was worth having.

Thanks for any help.

Not familiar with that number but if it's a rear wheel steer and not articulated than look out. Also dont know how the part availabilty would be on the machine, engine parts yes, but other parts maybe NLA.

Had the IH DT-817 turbo, 290 hp but was turned up to about 335hp. 4.5 yard bucket. It would move a pile of snow!!!!! On firmer ground (scaled out at 58,000#)you could do whatever you wanted. Moved a few rockpiles and cleared/piled some poplar bluffs, loaded/moved gravel and dirt. Bucket was to big and no teeth for real digging. Was cool pulling out 40 foot Elms and such, roots and all and carrying them upright across the yard. A few people stopped an turned around when they saw a full grown tree moving behind the other equipment!!!

If it has the GM 4-71 its a H90B 1958-61, 162hp, 28450#
GM 6V-53 H90C 1964-69 , 164 hp, 29-33k#
I would put a value of 3-9K depending on whether the important stuff works, it runs ok and the glands/seals, rods in all the main cylinders are decent.
The Hough's were well respected by anyone who we talked to about ours, were told parts would be no problem but never needed anything but resealing lift cyl's.
It was no 988 cat but could push around a 980!!

We sold ours because it was way bigger than what we needed, bought an 18 ton Case cruze-crane to finish a few bins then sold that and looking for a large stinger or picker truck (20+ ton) for easier transport. We can hire the cat and loader work we need done for much less than upkeep on something that size/age.

You sure it has a V8 Detroit? Most of them came with an IH V800. May have been changed out to the Detroit at some point. here's a vid, of an H90 with the V800.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOIRwXwg4-c

Might not be a Detroit, someone told me it was. It's definately a V-8.

Subject: We have a Hough 80

West Central MN
We have had an International Hough 80 payloader for about 20 years now. It was well used when we got it, but it is a tough machine and is very well built. We have no idea how many hours are on it, but it is certainly a large number.

Only major problem we've had was a minor transmission problem which turned into a fairly major fix because there were some parts changes and we had to completely rebuild the transmission in order to use the newer parts.

Parts have not been a problem that we can see. Any major dealer of construction equipment should be able to round up what you need. We have been dealing with DMI in Sioux Falls, SD.

We used to haul grain locally, so we originally bought it for cleaning out bunkers of grain. Worked great since it could lift high enough to dump directly in the semi's. The old gal is definitely starting to get a little tired, so her main use now for moving snow in town during the winter. We still use it on the farm for digging the occasional big rock out and for moving dirt around, but we try to take it easy on her to try and make her last as long as we can.
