Both are a complete pain to fill and get at. Got to be a monkey to get at. Front axle is kinda on top front of Axle up by engine and transfer case is behind the curtain on the LH side, very small 90* elbow to fill. Takes forever. You would think with as big of drain plug in that they coulda put a decent fill plug. I am red as red can be but IH was not thinking on those plugs. Have fun and Merry Christmas !!

My 3788 has a dipstick on top of the axle and to fill the transfer case i use a pump that goes on 2 gallons jugs to fill it. You give it a pump wait a little while than give it another pump and so on. It still take a while but better than trying to hold a jug in there and make a mess

Pull the sight glass on the transfer case and fill it to the bottom of the hole. Finish through the 90 degree fitting at the top of the case. Makes it quite a bit faster. The front diff is a pain anyway you do it. I use a flex tube funnel to at least get it out where you can get to it/

South West Michigan
Can it be filled from drain hole with a pump, like lower unit on an outboard engine?

On filling the transfer case isn't there a reason it fills so slow. If I remember there is something about it filling a cavity for the top bearings then running over to fill the rest of the case

Yes you are correct but you still have to add some oil to get it up to the middle of the sight glass. The cavity will be filled with the top off oil.

I think that pertains more to an O/Hed unit that is starting out dry then one where you changing oil.
