Subject: 8360R IVT problems

Sometimes when accelerating the thumb button, when the tractor goes through a shift around 8 mph, the transmission hammers back and forth terrible. Sounds like it is trying to shift up and down rapidly and jerks the tractor. Some days it will accelerate normally and then some days it acts up. I never have seem it throw a code. Any one else experience this?

Did you interrupt it's last calibration? Drive a 335R that acts that way if you don't let it finish a cal even though you should be able to.

Not that I know of. I have already shut it off and restarted to try and get it to do a recalibration. Can't really see that it helps.

Have an 8345 RT that will do that sometimes. Must be jumping clutch pack ranges and the Ivt trying to go from high speed in lower range to low speed in higher range. Think it's nature of the beast.

We have a 2011 8235R that is new to us this year and I noticed there is a small jerk in the transmission when it is shifting at a certain low speed. I never noticed that jerk in our 8230 or '10 8245R.

This 8360r is a 2013. We have a 2010 8320r and it is very smooth. Mechanic said Deere wants to get away from IVT, going to a 26 speed or something. I thought this transmission was supposed to be the berries. Anyway, trying to get dealer to look into again. He just said they had another one that did it and thought it was some control module. Just wondering if anyone else knows of a fix for this.

I very rarely use the thumb drive on the joy stick. I set it at the speed I want and use the throttle to slow down and speed up. Works very smoothly for me

Replace both hydro control solenoids on bottom rear cover. Force calibration and make sure trans software is current. This should take care of issue, done this with many ivt's . This trans is best out there and not going away.

2 questions, are those solenoids you speak of on the bottom rear of transmission(part RE244397), and how can I force a calibration? This tractor shifts smoothly when 1st start but seems to act up when oil is hot. Should calibration be done when oil is hot?

I think I had the wrong part number. Is it RE578485? Located down by drain plug?

SWMI
You got it, RE578485 is correct part #. Transmission calibration is forced through address PTI 29. Best done when oil is warm. You will need to be in tech mode then set address PTI 29 to 1 then start tractor and wait for calibration to complete, only takes couple minutes and tractor cannot be moved during. Tech mode is access by accessing message center then touching address icon and waiting for hour glass to disappear then press and hold addresses icon for 6 seconds and T will appear beside controller selection space.

We get this on our 7630 and 7730 with IVT. It acts like it is hunting the gear and it will drive you crazy. It really lurches between these gears. It only does it when the tractor is warm. You get to watch the RPMs bounce betwen 1850 and 2000. Back and forth. when the tractor has a load. Makes me feel like I need to put some Motley Crue on the radio so I have a reason to look like I am headbanging in the cab.Supposedly you can't force these transmissions to calibrate as they are alledged to be automatically calibrating all of the time. We have a 7720 that I can manually force a calibration and it will sometimes do it on it's own. It has never done this hunting.

Our dealer keeps saying 'I don't know, it could be a fuel injector going bad. We keep taking it in and they keep returning it saying no codes but we changed your fuel filter. It doesn't help.

I wonder if our tractors are having the same problem as your 8360. I hope there is a solution. The hired man wants to go Red because of them.

I just did the thing grnrider said where you change the PTI address to 1 and then restart the tractor. I got the oil temp up to 140 before I did this. It now is a completely different tractor. I can't even fell the changes in speed. I guess it clears the history and makes it do a completely new cal. Sure seems to work for now.

I'm having the same issues on 8310r . Are you running the trans in full auto? Mine seems to have the most jerking while in full auto. And after its ran for 20 mins or so at least I've set custom to keep rpm above 1400 and that helps.

Also ask did you replace the part number or just change the PTI address?

I have been running full auto. I never thought of changing rpm's. There were also some sensitivity settings such as clutch and something else. I never could see that changing them made a difference.

I did not change the solenoids yet as the tractor seemed so different when I did the forced calibration. I didn't spray today so didn't give it a full test. I thought I would wait and run it a few days this way to see how it acts.

I talked with service manager this afternoon and said he had just gotten off the phone from another 8R owner who had finished planting with no problems and hooked onto sprayer who reported the same surge/jerking. I wonder if something is causing these tractors to act up all of a sudden, or if it was just never reported that much.

I have a 2010 8320R that has done the surging and hunting thing since I bought it (used). I don't have any solutions but thanks (Agtalk) for the suggestions. Darren

Hi.

Do you know how to confirm I have the latest software for this transmission?
Do you always replace the solenoids or try the forced calibration only first?
Is it true that if I have code 524233.16 I can try changing the CU solenoid only?

THX.

PG
