Subject: IH 2+2 differences

Hamilton, OH/ Browning, MO
I'm trying to find a 6588 and can't seem to find any, but there are some 6388s and 6788s out there. What are the major differences between them besides hp? I think that the 6788 had one less gear, such as the earlier 1566 and 1586. I'm wanting to spread the wheels out and carry tanks on the front along with a toolbar on back. I wonder what is weaker in the center that would cause me trouble if i was to go to the 6388. Or is the 6788 built heavier?

I don't really want to go with older 33,35,37 series, but if I had to would there be any reason to be afraid of a 33 vs 35 vs 37.

Thanks, Adam

All the 2+2's have the 3.25 axles, always scares me (I have a 6588). The 1086 has 3.5" and the 1586 has 4" axles. The 60's series have different (better) bearings on the front axles. I think all of the above is correct.

I have looked at things on CaseIH parts website to find out answers like you are asking. You might try that. I think the 33 and 35, 63 and 65 are the same. My 35 has the same axle size as my 856.

Good luck............I'd like to try out a 6*88 but finding one is like hens teeth...........Everyone I've inquired about lately is sold as soon as I inquire. They are the same as the older series just changes in the cab, I wouldn't have a older one here because of that, I had the shifter and TA location, and the hydraulic outlet levers seemingly on the floor............Like the later series cab setup a ton better.

TP I couldn't agree more. I had a 1586 once so you know why I want the 88 cab. I swear this summer there were some on tractorhouse, but not now when I'm looking to get one.

Eastern VA. No such thing as too many Magnums.
There's one in my county that some guy owns. He moves it around a couple times a year. It doesn't do anything much. That model has a red cab and black wheels, right? It might be a 6388. Never saw it up close. The 70 series were supposed to be tough, but they're still pretty ugly. Dont you think they kindof look like a 305 Magnum though?

virginia veg, i never thought about them looking like a 305 but they do. That being said, I put in many hours on 2+2 and would much rather it have been a 305.
