I ask, because 5 years ago, my bother in law paid $43,000 for a 60x14x40

North Central Kansas | So you are telling me in 5 years, that the price has gone up that much? His 60x40x14 with cement pad, electrical, dirt work, turn key operation was $43,000! dirt work $5000 electrical $5000 cement $13,000 turn key $3000 bldg $17,000 40x60x14 = 33,600/12=2800feet squared $17,000/2800=$6.07 $6.07x25% (mark up) =1.5175+6.07=7.5878 66x16x40 = 42240 / 12 = 3520 feet squares 3520 * $7.5875 = $26,708 So where does the other $18,000 come into play? did yours say without cement...mine does not clearly say that...just says budget........

Flora IL | Anyone else put up sheds in ur area.. Lol

So. IL | The concrete is way too high. I pour crete and could do it for 1/2 the 6 inch price and still make a nice profit on it providing you buy the rock and rebar. $1-1.5 per sq. ft. will pay for the placing of the concrete and finishing. Concrete is $78.63 with tax a yard here, 6 bag mix with air, so you are looking at about $1.31 a square foot for the concrete at that price 6 inches thick.

Central Iowa | Brother just had a friend that wanted a Morton quote so they came and first thing they told him was I don't think you can afford a morton? I would hope that is with cement but I doubt it. Edited by Rhino 2/11/2012 18:17

20 Miles West of Indianapolis Indiana | in the Farm World publication you can get a 60x40x12or14 (cant remember) build for less than 20,000. had a landlord had one build by amish with concrete for less than 25,000. honest to goodness.

20 Miles West of Indianapolis Indiana | we can get concrete delivered for $90 a yard last summer if your buyig more then a half of a truck. central indiana

Central Iowa | Brother just got a quote for a 40x16x64 from the Amish that built mine and was $24000 no door or cement but a lot of other options

Ohio | I read your quote as add the cement cost if you want the floor. The price sounds like Morton without a floor. I think Morton builds the best barns. BUT, that's just IMOHO.

WY, OK | bharzman - 2/11/2012 15:27 So where does the other $18,000 come into play?
The Big M on the very top of the peak.
From what I have seen of their advertisements they ave dropped their prices this year by 15%-20%, no way that is a coincidence since the tax write off is gone. The way I read the quote you need to budget the extra $$ in for either of those concrete thicknesses.
smartwick08 |
| ||
Minot, ND | yep 500-800 depending on where you go (this is finishing the concrete also) for just the concrete its around 300 a yard

EC Indiana | Has it gone up that much in 5 years. Possibly. You need to refigure your square footage calculation. Should only be 66x40=2640 Cost of concrete would only be 5k plus labor and supplies. Double it for easy figuring. I think Morton builds a great building but you will pay a lot for their packages.

N/E Iowa | From where i live i counted 24 sheds from a 8 to 9 mile radius that went up last sumer/fall. And thats not driving all the gravel roads. I "WANT" to build a shop/shed 48x60, 24x16' door. cement, radiant heat, one walk in door, 2 windows. I have priced 3 places last fall, anywhere from 68,000.00 to 95,000.00. Morton was the highest, then local lumber yard, then wick. tough call. The last thing i want to do is build too small, to save some coin...... Just need to bight the bullet...LOL

When making your decision here's a few things to think about... Morton's Completion time will probably be a week to maybe 2 at TOPS... I have seen WICK crew take 3 months to build a 60X100x18H building.. Also seen the Luberyard buildings be quite nice some Stick Built Some Pole depends on Who the Yard contracts to put it up could run into same 3 Month Scenario... Also.. Go to Wick and the LumberYard and Grab their Sheet of TIN than go Grab a Morton Sheet of TIN... A tremendous Differnce... I am not a Morton Salesman just a Proud Owner of 3 Nice Buildings and a Satisfied Customer.. Just my 2 cents worth....

north central ky | a morton farm machinery show special. 60x16'4"x120' delivered and constucted $45,000.

SC North Dakota | You don't want a morton!!! Any thing but a morton.
greenpower |
| ||
N/E Iowa | Why???? I know there salty in price, but don't ya get what you pay for? poor loser; i'm taking that price includes the sliding doors, and walk threw, no eve's, no windows, poles are in the dirt, instead of on cement colums? Just wondering. We have a 60x120 machine shed built in 1981, two 25x14 foot doors sliders, one walk in, turn key for $21,0000.00. Boy how things have changed!! Edited by greenpower 2/11/2012 20:27

Central Kansas | poor loser - 2/11/2012 18:53 a morton farm machinery show special. 60x16'4"x120' delivered and constucted $45,000. That's not the same Morton building I have................same size constructed in the fall of 08 and it cost TWICE as much! Your telling me they have reduced the price that much? I'm betting that the building is the "Country Craft" with 1 sliding door and 1 walk end door and that's it!

Western illinois | almost $17/ sq ft? It better have. Mine was $9 with no concrete.
NEILFarmer |
| ||
Morris, IL | Your probably right. 135'x66'x17' with 30'x17' slider and 24'x15' overhead was something like $110,000 plus dirt work. This was almost 5 years ago no so your telling me one size smaller is 40% the cost (maybe 50% once you take off the windows, overhead door, and the porch), 5 years later. Must be a county craft.
bkandra |
| ||
Did a 60x90x16 this last summer. It was the country craft by morton with a few upgrades. No concrete or overhangs, but is does have gutters. One sliding door and one walk door. This is for machine storage only. Cost was around 36K, or $6.67/sq.ft.

| ||
north central ky | i was just reading it out of the farm world advertisement. it is a morton and says only a limited number available. im sure it is not the one in the pic that has three 30 ft sliders and a walk-in door because it says (starting) at $45000.
bharzman |
| ||
North Central Kansas | Well, if that is without cement, and I have to figure that in, then thats at $55,326, plus water, elect, and so on. My back up is a 60x51x19 constructed over the top of my 20x40 shop, no floor, just walls.
NEILFarmer |
| ||
Morris, IL | Cement was on top of that, we added some concrete to 38' feet of that this summer but i don't know what all it cost. I want to say somewhere around $6-7 per foot but thats 8", tones of re bar, floor heat tubes, foam insulation underneath, and a frost barrier. Also poured a footing under the overhead door, and did most of the work ourselves so that price is probably way off.

MN | Last summer I got a quote for a 72x120x20? with big slider and small OHD on the side and BIG hydro on one end ~129000 just shell-dirt floor, this was fancy building-speced out to be finished inside someday
Pofarmer |
| ||
That actually sounds about right. Just figured 15K for a 36x48 with Pex in the floor.
srsu99 |
| ||
Central / West Texas | I would guess without concrete figured in since they gave you a quote per square foot on the floor. We are at around $10 a foot for building and materials on our steel buildings. That includes r-10 insulation but does not include doors as I sub those out. Really not a fan of sliders at all and pretty much refuse to do them!
srsu99 |
| ||
Central / West Texas | BTW sheetmetal has gone up about 40% in the last 5 years here. Dont know if that helps or not with the rise in cost over 5 years ago theaory

North Central Kansas | steel would be awesome. But ya know, I would like a shop before my kids graduate from high school.

North Central Kansas | Anyone ever put one of these up? Too bad they don't go into more detail on the specs of their unit
