Ayr Queensland Australia 4807 | I know i have asked before ,the reason i ask is they are still on the build your own section of Deeres site. The new 4630 sprayer is not going to replace the 6700 for sugar cane we need the single front wheel with the rear at 120 in plus, the weight is good about half of the other bigger sprayers. I was told by a dealer they were no longer in production and the 4630 fills its spot . What are the tobaco growers going to do as i was told they also use this type of sprayer. Can someone who sells Deere equipment tell what is going on TIA for any helpful information Edited by KelB 1/18/2010 07:32

Eastern NC | I am a tobacco grower from eastern NC and I have the same questions. In fact I have been running the 6500s because I need the short wheelbase. I am currently searching for alternatives but nothing really stands out. Take a look at the 650 PDF from Big John Manufactiring. It can be equipped with all wheel steer.

Eastern VA. No such thing as too many Magnums. | I thought they were still available. Maybe I'm mistaken. I prefer the 3 wheel models too. We dropped out of tobacco 10 years ago, but still use them for corn toppers. Could you use a Deere 47/4830 or Hagie for cane? I know they both offer some extra high ones. Here are some pictures of high ones I've seen. NESD | The following is part of an e-mail response that I recieved this morning from product support at John Deere. I guess it answers that question "The 6700 finished its last run in Nov 2009 - it is done ; forever to be a legendary sprayer series ( the "6000" series ). The model 4630 replaced it .....it is already in production with a good first run already scheduled."

Ayr Queensland Australia 4807 | We have the bigger four wheel sprayers here which are good for the larger areas with large turnaround areas .The 6500 and 6700 just fit the job having lower weight , single front wheel option and hight clearance under the frame and also much cheaper for what is needed.

Eastern VA. No such thing as too many Magnums. | I hate to hear they discontinued it. The John Deere 4630 sprayer will NOT fit the need for most people that liked the 6000, 6500, and 6700 series. Those sprayers were everywhere in the southeast. The 4 wheel sprayers don't offer the clearance or maneuverability that the original hi-cycles have. It will probably make the old 3 wheelers worth more than ever. I think Deere made a mistake, but I doubt it will hurt them much. They seem to weather mistakes better than most.

NESD | Sure shows how different the regions are, I have worked with sprayers since late 1996 and have never touched a 6000 series sprayer, they just are not used in the upper midwest, I did see one go thru on a truck once and I have seen them at the factory but otherwise no contact with them. I highly doubt that I will see any of the 4630's up here either.

Rafe- If I am reading your posts right in this thread, in your neck of the woods, a lightweight, high-clearance, 4-wheel steer machine would probably meet your needs? What kind of capacity do you desire? Or does it come down to loaded weight?

Eastern VA. No such thing as too many Magnums. | It depends what you consider high clearance. I wouldn't consider 60 inches to be high clearance. Tobacco, cane, and vegetable growers want more. We didn't even like the 4 wheel 6500s or 6700s, the front axle was too low. I don't grow tobacco anymore, but we like the old 6000 we have for topping corn. For high capacity spraying we use the 4720. It's a lot nicer than the 6000s, but the clearance isn't as good, and the maneuverability isn't as good. I love the 4720 in big fields though. 4630 looks like junk to me. I'd rather have a 10 year old 4710 than a brand new 4630.
