Aggieland | Anyone here wear Thorogood lace up boots? They are made in USA which is my major draw to them but wondering if someone has first foot experience? The redwings I like are Chinese made and this second pair I’ve owned is shot after 13-14 months. I’d like to buy a USA made workbook, non steel toe and lace up. Are there any other brands I need to look at? I’m an 11 wide foot and the only Thorogoods at my local boot barn were 11 and they were too tight in the middle of my foot. They had an 11W but it was steel toe. I’m crouched down on my toes way too much for a steel toe. Thanks for reading. Caleb

I know a few in the wildland fire service who have them and are happy. I have Haix that I really like; not US made. I am seriously considering these for my next wildland boots from these guys. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuVa3LfGE-4

Aggieland | How would you say the break in? Do you buy them pretty snug fitting? Caleb

NE NEBRASKA | I've tried them on but never fits right either too snug or too lose.

That's the only work boot I've been wearing for the last 15 years. Comfortable right out of the box. Never had to go back to old pair while breaking in a new pair because the new ones were hurting my feet. Few years ago, I had trouble with lace hooks pulling out on a new pair after a couple days. Couldn't return them as I had already turned the receipt in at work for reimbursement. E mailed the company. They asked for some pics. Once I sent the pics, they called the retailer and got it all set up so I could return the boots for a new pair. Can get about a year out of them before needing a new pair and even then, the only reason for replacing them is because being on concrete all day, the cushioning in the soles is shot to the point it starts to bother my back. Alot of times ill take the old pair home and wear them around the farm for several months because off the concrete, they don't bother my back.

NE kansas | I would say snug. I will wear them a week then oil them and they seem to be about right.

East Central SD | I've worn them almost daily for over 15 years, and get about 2 years out of a pair. I do have custom made orthotics, but I can put on a new pair and go straight to work. I'll even wear them to events where I'll be on my feet all day, even if they don't look as nice as my other shoes. I do have to replace the laces about halfway through their lifespan. I highly recommend them.

NC Ohio | I have owned two pairs of 11" lace up Thorogoods and appreciate the USA made quality. They have held up very well. They do not advertise as waterproof, but do have a liner like my waterproof Keens. This makes them warm for hot weather. I just wear thinnest, shortest sock I can find and am proud to buy American at reasonable prices.

SW Wisconsin | I haven't tried their lace up boots, but I bought a pair of their rubber boots in December. Very nice boots except for durability. The original pair was leaking by mid/ late February, the warranty replacement I got about March 1st was leaking by the end of March. Really frustrating both because I spent $200 hoping for a pair of boots that would last me at least a year, and because they're one of very few companies that make a rubber boot in wide sizes.

Ludington/Manistee MI area | I’m on my first pair but very content with them they feel different than Red Wings. It might be a tough decision in the future the USA built angle might tip it in their favor.

Their fire fighting pull on boots were such an improvement over the rubber boots we had worn for years.

West Tennessee | I have nothing against Thorogood but I like the USA built Belleville boots. They are a military style boot though. Many different models available: waterproof or not, steel toe or not, etc. https://www.bellevilleboot.com/images/bb_site_images/AR_670-1_Compli...

W. Kansas | On my third pair. Honestly don't even look at any other brands anymore. The first pair seemed to be a bear to break in, but the last two haven't been a problem. I'm getting 3-4 years out of a pair. My old Redwings were doing good to last a year. Get mine at a family run boot shop, they sell a bunch of them.

Milford, IL | I'd like to try on a pair of Thorogood boots someday. In regard to the redwing boots, the China made boots that I've tried in aren't in the same league of quality as the USA made redwings. I liked 4425s but they're discontinued so I've settled for 3504s. Break in is no fun.

The boots on the boys get passed down to the younger kids. The girls will wear them once the boys outgrow. For adults (me) I get 2.5 to 3 years out of pair when used on the farm. I use Nor-V-Gen boot oil a couple times a year to keep them from drying out. For me the failure is usually split leather at the sole. I get them wet a lot and Probabaly shouldn’t. I buy them at The Shoe Box in Black Earth, WI. They usually have all sizes and widths in stock. I wear a 9.5 and they fit well. They’re made in Wisconsin so they are the only boot I will buy. Quality is good and usually always cheaper than Red Wing. Edited by moon1234 7/8/2021 13:41

Aggieland | I’m not a patient person and I needed relief now. Thorogoods weren’t available without having to be ordered and with today’s issues of availability I went to the Redwing store and found an American made 912 workbook for $219 and they fit pretty good. They weren’t the most expensive American made but these are American leather and made in America. I’m sure the rubber is imported and that’s fine. I will keep you posted as to how they hold up. I’ll still keep an eye out for a set of Thorogoods as they seemed to be really good quality. Thanks for the replies. I have wore them. They are a good boot. My personal favorite production boot is Redwing 877 they are also USA made . The absolute best is custom made Russell moccasin boots.

East of Broken Bow | I injured a tendon in my foot a while back, and it is very slow healing. So far, I have tried maybe 10 or 12 different shoes/boots to see what works. So far, the only full height boots I can wear all day would be military surplus RAT boots by Wellco (the genuine military issue USA made ones, not the knock-offs - learned that the hard way), and Thorogood 8" lace ups, I think I have the Legacy series. Took better part of a week to fully break in, but they are now my go-to work boot. The Military ones might be the tiniest bit more comfortable to wear all day, but they are MUCH harder to get on and off due to the full height tongue. For hiking style boots, I've had good luck with Keens.

Rushville, IN | I had a few pairs of Thorogoods and liked them. I could get 1 year out of them. Redwing before that and 6-8 months tops for them. I am hard on boots, walk lots of fields in every weather. I also have a wide foot and have since gone to twisted X lace up square toes and get 15 + months out of a pair which is the best for me. And very comfortable. Thorogood was good out of the box also.
