| So I have a nice running mostly restored 54' Oliver 77 Diesel. There are a few things I'd like to spruce up on it, but don't know if it's possible? A few years back it was converted from a 6 volt to 12 volt system and the right side panel can't be put on anymore. Does anyone know if they have made a mini alternator or have come up with a design that will allow me to keep the 12 volt system but use a different alternator that is smaller so that I can make the tractor look original?

Liberty, MO | On my Fleetline 66 we used a small delco with an external voltage regulator and it still bulges the side out a little. That was 20 years ago I'm sure there are smaller alternators now. |

West Central Minnesota | In order to keep the original look, I have had a couple of my MM tractor generators switched to 12 volt. All you have to do is switch the field coils and swap voltage regulators. I usually hook charger to battery at beginning of year and have never had a starting issue. These tractors do have magnetos instead of point ignition systems. |

Farming in NW Iowa | I've put small Hitachi alternators on H Farmalls because the 10SI Delcos were too big. May be worth a try.

| Check into a Denso alternator, say like for a older 6x4 Deere Diesel Gator..
These are ridiculous in price from Deere, but search online, should be able to get for under $ 100 on Amazon. There is a company I think in Tennessee that sells them, as I just put one on my moms gator this spring, and have had very good results.
You will still need an external regulator though, and online should find one under $ 50.00
My email is good if you want me to dig that invoice up for a contact.
Also check with Jegs and Summit racing, they have smaller alternators for drag and circle track cars.

NW Washington | If you want to spend big bucks you can buy an alternator that looks like a generator. Here is one and google will pull up more. http://www.gener-nator.com/
Maybe Korves Oliver has a suggestion. http://www.korvesoliver.com/ |

Chebanse, IL..... | JohnW I don't see any prices on their generator/alternator website, but that seems like a good product to retain original look. Do you have a price on something from them? |

| Had a 300 Farmall 6 volt generator changed over to 12 volt. Also changed the regulator. Looks stock and works great. Was done at LaFontaine Generator Exchange, Inc. in La Fontaine, IN. |

Very few havent been modified for both at some point in its life, in fact when I see one thats original it takes me a second to figure out whats wrong with it. Also, you couldve just said "nice tractor"
To the OP, I know there is a way to have an alternator and be able to put the side tins back on, Ive seen it done. When we finally get around to restoring our 88 thats what were going to do. Might have to do a little internet searching or check over on Yesterdays tractors |

s.e. Pa | Steiner tractor parts sells compact alternators. I have a similar one on a super 88, but I got it at a local shop and it was about 1/2 price. I had to choose a fan belt by trial and error, but I was able to get the alternator up nice and tight to the engine. The supers have different panels, but I think the fleetline panels would clear the way I have it setup.

Similar to the Deere that Retento posted. |

ohio | If you have the original generator it can be converted to 12 volt. Or,
you can install a 12 volt generator. John deere made 12 volt generators up to 1969. A 1010 OR 2010 generator would work fine and look original. |
