Subject: First calf of the year - right on schedule

Driftless SW Wisconsin
Drove the Ranger around the half grass half woods calving pasture Friday and found the first calf of the year, right on schedule per the AHA gestation chart.

A nice bull calf out of a heifer and sired by my Schu-Lar 33E bull. All cleaned up and ready to grow. Looks like about 75 lb? Should be followed pretty close by more from the looks of this group of cows and heifers.

Always a special time when calving starts. If we get the predicted rain this evening will start rotational grazing for the year tomorrow.

Looks like a couple more today this one is just a few hours old. A heifer with a spot on her head. I watched her get colostrum then left them alone as mom led her to the woods.
