sw ontario | Livestock markets are so unpredictable , at Christmas the major hog packer was sending out letters that they can only kill and have hook space for there contract hogs , don't flood us. April 23 -2020 280# live hogs -$128.09 April 23, 2021 same 280# live hog $270.47
Last yr. at this time guys were losing at least $50 head , fast forward to today and you can make $65+ which sounds good but when you average the 2 ,not so great. Last good hog year was 2014-15. And 1986 was good.
Packers have been stealing cattle guys money like they did with hogs in 2020. Now hog packers are pretty much hoping to break even.
I hope the same happens for beef in the next year.
And , cash crops,livestock,vegetable,nut,ect. farmers need a bonus year every once in a while just to update 'stuff' | |
