Subject: Drought

east central ND
The last 2 years here were wet and stupid wet. Last summer 1/3 of my farm was sloppy wet PP corn stalks. It finally dried up this last fall. Very little snow this winter and there is bare dirt in many feilds. Last two winters were 18” or more of snow on ground at this time.

I have not even hooked up the snow blower this year. Township has not plowed snow yet this winter, bare gravel.

Have decent to very good and a few area of still excessive ground moisture as of right now. If the trend continues, I am very worried it’s going to be a dry summer.

My light sand ground will fall flat on its face if it doesn’t get timely rains.

I looked up my yields on crop insurance . I think we hit a very dry summer 10 years ago corn yeild was under 90 bu/ ac. Dry again 8 years ago , if I remember and corn was 130. The wet weather and newer varieties has the good dirt in the area bumping anywhere from 160 to 200 or more depending on soils and if your planting a safe maturity at 85 day, or pushing maturity at 90 + day corn.

Will the dry trend hold for here? Moisture has be south and East all winter.
