| I thought I would pass on a tip. We do our own butchering, but regular saz-all blades do not work so well. They gum up and I do not want the paint getting on the meat. Mills Fleet Farm now carries tree pruning blades for a saz-all. They do not have paint on them and the teeth are farther apart so they do not gum up. If you live near a Fleet Farm and do not want to have to order online, this is a great option.
I have also used a new electric chain saw with no oil in it. That really works quick, but it does waist a bit more meat. It is not a big deal on legs, because there is not much meat near the hoof anyway, and cutting down the back mostly just cuts up the spinal cord. I kind of prefer the chain saw. The ground meat and bone pile the chain saw blade leaves, makes great dog food.
We have a band saw for making chops and steaks. If you do a lot of home butchering a band saw is well worth the investment. | |
