Subject: Salt and low carb

Pittsburg, Kansas
Dr Steve Phinney (Virta Health) has been involved in research and practical application of low carb for quite a lot of years.

He is in a Q&A setting in this presentation and around minute 8 addresses salt in a low carb setting. Low carb needs more salt consumption than a standard diet. Feeling low energy? May need more salt. Constipation? May need more salt. He covers why. He and researcher Jeff Volik along with another Dr Sarah Holberg have done loads of research and publish many papers concerning low carb eating and weight loss.

Covers lots of other stuff in the presentation.

Another researcher (James Diniclantonio) has said in his book that something like 9% of the population is sensative to excess salt and can cause blood pressure rise in these individuals. Yet the recomendations for low salt diet has been based on this small segment of the population. It is likely inadequate for most of us. Especially in a low carb environment.
