Subject: ATU 200 problem

Central Kansas
I run a John Deere brown box with a ATU 200 steering motor in my combine What I need to know is there a ground pin in the harness? I cannot get the brown box to perform or even stay on if I do not have a ground. The only ground I can get is through the steering wheel shaft but not consistent. I have a jury rigged way to get it grounded but my method has not proven to be a foolproof system and has caused A lot of headaches. Is this The only way that this system will operate properly with the steering shaft being the ground?
