Subject: Lilacs in September

Northwest Iowa
Several weeks ago, my lilacs lost their leaves. At the time, I attributed it to the dry weather we had had. Now, they are blooming. The flowers are on virtually bare twigs. These are not the reblooming variety. They have been there for over 50 years. Any ideas?
