Subject: Tried some derecho damage corn... not good

East Central Ia
We are outside of the main path of the storm but still have significant damage.

This field was planted with a 103rm number which is early for my area and planted 4/21.

You go another 3-4 miles south of me and there is virtually no damage.

We are able to harvest 99%+ of the stalks but combine and header losses are definitely higher then usual. We have the reel on but I have only used it for a couple very small patches, maybe 1-2% of what we harvested yesterday.

This is above ave ground for our county with a long history of hog manure.

That being said I was expecting this to be below aph... but not this bad. It is easily 75+ below aph.

What I am getting at is this doesn’t look horrible from the road... not like the ankle high pictures we are seeing.

I expect this to be one of my worst fields but I am now very nervous about the decent looking stuff.

We have good depth of subsoil and typically do very good in a slightly drier year.

Receiving 1.5” of rain in July and .4” in August sure took its toll it appears.
