Subject: Copper for Algae control

Saunders County Nebraska
My genius wife bought a real cool fountain for our back yard and googled that if you put pennies minted before 1978 that were pure copper they would prevent algae from forming. Well sure enough she put 15 old peenies and no algae in the fountain after a couple months now. Has anyone tried using cooper tube or copper pieces in there water supply tanks to keep the algae out. We have painted them black and that seems to work but wondering if this could be another option for area control.
