Subject: Corn - Shades of green/translucency and N status

Kettle Moraine, WI
Noticed this for several years and could never have a description that a google search worked to find an answer.

Nitrogen deficient corn has a degree of yellowing.

When you look at a nitrogen DEFCIENT corn field facing the sun versus sun to your back, the corn will look quite a bit greener when the sun is behind you than in front of you.

When you look at a nitrogen SURPLUS corn field facing the sun versus sun to your back, the corn will look almost the same shade of green either direction.

Is N sufficient/N surplus corn higher in chlorophyll density, thicker leaves, light spectrum refracted differently, less translucency to the leaves, or is my mind playing a visual trick on me ?

I read about the GreenSeeker system that determines N status of the crop (though I don't know what it is measuring). I trying to understand what I am seeing.
