Subject: Chemical behavior of NH3 and other N sources in soil?

S Illinois
How quickly and in what amount do the chemical processes occur in soil with regards to conversion to plant useable forms of N? Is this process linear where a certain % is slowly converted daily when conditions are favorable? Is it abrupt and more of an all in a day or two type of conversion? Was just wondering for those with lower CEC’s if the 10lbs per CEC meant losses occur quickly above that or if something like NH3 converts slowly enough that there will be both a significant portion still in the NH3 form and the the plant available form?
