Subject: Denmark assistance program

Driftless SW Wisconsin

Rather than hand bailouts to companies like Boeing, or sending checks to voters, the Danish government is telling employers to keep paying employees and benefits and the Danish government will reimburse the companies 75% of the cost of paying workers sequestered at home due to the virus. There may be other parts to the Danish program but this is the majority of their virus economic program.

Sounds like a plan to me. All workers continue to get 75% of their normal paycheck, including low paid workers. They have money to pay bills and buy groceries (and beef!) and keep the economy going, incentive (25%) to get back to work and the government is not handing out cash to people that don't need it. The system is also relatively simple and can be implemented immediately by employers - just keep doing what you usually do.

Denmark's program will probably cost the government a lot less per capita than the multi trillion grab bag the USA is about to implement.
