SW Ohio | I was fortunate enough to buy my first farm late last year from my grandparents. First thing I did was grid sample it on 2 acre grids. This showed me that the previous tenant didn't exactly keep the pH or fertility where it should be so I've got a bit of a project on my hands to build it up.
On about 250 acres I need lime, pH is from 5.2 to 6 on these acres. I got a guy lined up to haul and spread a few months ago but we haven't been dry enough to think about getting it done yet.
My question is how close to planting can I have the lime spread? This is long term no till ground so it will not be incorporated. I realize that I'm not going to see maximum benefits this year but with pH where it is I hate to wait. Just wondering if it gets applied say a week before planting am I going to have issues with my residual herbicide or availability of other surface applied fertilizer?
