Madison Co. Virginia | I've been breeding dairy cattle for years, and am reasonably proficient with doing so. I've bred dairy heifers off-and-on, with mixed results.
If I'm breeding a run of 20 heifers(1-2 a day), I have reasonably good success doing it. But recently I tried it again after a lengthy hiatus, and could not get through the cervix.
Does anyone have any pointers on how to get through that cervix that's just the size of my pinkie finger? I think I'm getting the gun 1 or 2 rings deep in the cervix, but then I stall out. I can't feel the gun tip, indicating that I've not merely missed the cervix altogether.
Would adding lube to the AI gun help? Would it affect the semen quality? Are there any other(smaller) AI guns/sheaths that would "thread-the-needle" a little better? | |
