SW Wisconsin | Every once in a while I can’t be bothered to think about my own problems, and figure out solutions to problems that nobody has probably ever had. Here’s my idea for row crops, I’m curious to know if anybody has tried it or if it might work:
Run the planter with 5.5” between rows, then 11” to the next row, then 5.5”, etc. each row drops a seed every 19”, with the pair of 5.5” rows alternating, either side of the 11” gap synchronized. This would plant the whole thing in hexagons 11” on a side. Obviously spacing could change, by my figures 11” is about 40k/acre, 14” would be 24.5K/acre. Stupid idea? The next big thing? Everybody’s already doing it and I’m behind the times? The idea is just to get more sunlight to the plants without sacrificing population. | |
