Subject: Best way to clean old cast iron sausage stuffer without losing paint?

MT-ND
So we found my great Grandpa's (possibly great-great) sausage stuffer that, except for the last 20 years, was used constantly since new. Since then it sat inside a garbage bag in a not so mouse proof building, but didn't gain alot of mouse... things. The paint is still very nice on it, but how does one clean it for use again with out losing the paint?

Google says put it in the oven on "clean" or soak it in liquids that I know will remove paint.

No I don't want to just buy a new one. I did and I wasn't impressed with the price or quality. It worked great 20 years ago(just no one wanted to do it anymore) so it should work great now, if I can clean it.
