Subject: Well, that's not a washout!

NW Ohio
Soil finishing a field last week and noticed a washout, hopped out of the cab to go inspect and boy was I surprised! I have no idea how this opened up nor how we haven't found it before. The well opening is only about 2-3" below the soil surface and is about 2' in diameter. This particular field has been deep ripped every fall for the past decade and yet we have never noticed this before.. a complete surprise.

Any guesses to how it opened up? Best I could come up with was the bottom of the well fell out and took everything above it with it.
Additionally, best way to fill it in? Water level is probably 6-8 feet down and no knowing how deep it goes.

Sure makes you appreciate modern day technology, that looks like an awful lot of manual labor!
