Subject: 2 new uses for drones....

Chebanse, IL.....

We've been attending "emergency meetings" in this area lately due to rain-outs. No planting. Drones were brought up at 2 different meetings.

NAU crop insurance meeting. Adjusters will use drones to assess "wind-damage" corn. Instead of the old walk the field to find the down areas, the adjust flies the field for photos with drone. NAU has software that can i.d. down corn, and the degree to which it's down. Now you will have a photo & damage assessment within a short time (?). It will show something like "25% down flat, 15% leaning, 60% standing. Photos were shown. Looks like a good tool.

Pioneer Hybrid. PHI reps will carry drones that take photos of small (looked like V3-4) corn. Their software can count the plants in an area & give population per acre. I assume the field has to be somewhat clean. Might be interesting.

Both of these applications used DJI Phantom drones. Nothing fancier.
