sw ontario
Not the Bryan Adams song but farming around here in '69 , really wet ,processing tomatoes which usually at that time yielded 15-20 ton acre was 2-3 ton , lot's beans planted in July ,Dad was custom harvesting a friends and he stopped dad and wanted to know if there was enough beans to pay for the combining -5 bu. acre @ $2.75-harvested with MH 90sp in Dec. ,combining $5 acre....Farm where we live previous owner after sending his tomato crop to Heinz he got a bill as didn't sell enough to pay for plants...he started carpentry business, grew beans,wheat...lot's of farmers who never worked off farm got jobs as there was no crop insurance.....me being a teenager had more interest in girls than farming at that time....thing I do remember is everyone seemed happy and didn't complain...........land dropped 30% from 1966 levels , machinery sales stopped....yrs. later Dad said there was opportunities but everyone scared and said that don't base any plans on 1 yr....be it a good or bad one...good luck to all
