My Father has wanted one of these trucks for years. I’ve always liked them myself. They definitely embody the true rugged off-road era that they were built for.
It seems prices for them have been climbing recently, at least for the ones that sit for sale online for years at a time. Occasionally one will pop up on Craigslist for an affordable price and sells in a few days.
Dad is retiring soon and would ideally like to find one that is mostly complete and in acceptable shape. Not a restored one, but not a basket case either. Doesn’t need to be running. What area of the country is best to start looking? I see most of them for sale in the Pacific Northwest, with a huge variation in price and condition.
For those that have owned them, what are some watch outs? Any common items to keep in mind? I know there are three variants depending on the year from 1945 to 1971.
