Subject: WIU Organic Research farm pics (5/14/2019)

here is a link to some pics that I took at the research farm yesterday: https://photos.app.goo.gl/7UZfMRcdqHTAYmiX8

the first 3 pics are of triticale that will be planted to NT soybeans. Some of the triticale is solid seed on 7.5" rows and some is in twin rows that alternated with twin rows of oats and radish that winter killed. There is also a 10' wide strip of Aroostook cereal rye on the right side of the 3rd pic.

the 4th pic shows overwintered rapeseed that was part of a diverse CC mix planted last August. All the other species winter killed. Field will be tilled soon and planted to soybeans.

the 5th pic also shows overwintered rapeseed that was part of a diverse CC mix planted in August 2018. The field was also drilled to 4010 forage peas in early April 2019. The field will be tilled soon and planted to corn.

the 6th pic shows a balansa clover plant that was drilled last fall and over wintered. Most of our balansa planted last fall does not appear to have overwintered.

pics 7-11 show a mix of oats and peas drilled in early April 2019 that will be harvested for grain.

pic 10 shows a place were we didn't set the drill down all the way and came back and patched in more oats and peas.

pic 11 shows the transition from soybean stubble on the left to corn stalks on the right. Not all of the areas where we drilled oats/peas into corn stalks look this bad.

pics 12 and 13 show a cover crop mix of oats and mustard drilled into corn stalks. We havent decided whether we will plant this field to soybeans or another summer legume for seed. This is the field where we had our 60" corn in 2018.

One pic of oats and peas should be attached.
