Subject: How do you measure rainfall amounts?

Nemaha Co Nebraska
I grew up in SW Indiana and we always measured rain by the tenths and quarters. I moved here to Nebraska about a year ago and soon after moving I was chatting with the neighbor right after a rain. He mentioned that he dumped out twenty hundredths (.20). That was the first time i had ever heard of anyone measuring rain by the hundredths and i thot maybe he was a bit weird!! But i soon discovered that everyone around here measures rain by the hundredths. So... how do you measure rainfall and what is your reason?

Do people in areas with less rainfall measure it by the hundredths because it is more appreciated/needed?
