Athens, TX | Thought I would share my results of last year's attempt. We have about 250 cows, start calving Feb, just cut down from 90 days to 75, we do timed AI on all that has been 56 days from calving to planned AI date. Clean up bulls go in 5 days after AI. 80 percent calved in the first 30 days.
To move up late calvers we put CIDRs in at 30 days post calving, remove at 7 days and gave shot of lutalyse, turn out with bulls. About 60 percent moved up by 30 days. Easy to do and cheap as I just reused CIDRs from the big group. This year will have less than 10 head to calve in last 30 day group. Just the extra size of the calves at weaning more than pays for the effort. | |
