Penn Yan, NY | In our area we have a lot of existing subsurface drainage systems that are not well mapped. People have been installing systems for over 200 years around here and when we install a new system we find a mix of stone ditches, horseshoe on board, horseshoe, round clay, and various ages of plastic. The location of most of this is unknown but can be seen from above when conditions are right.
I’d like to use a drone to start mapping what’s in our fields so that we can more efficiently lay out new tile systems. We don’t dare use a plow on most of our fields because of how much old stuff we would cut off.
Does anyone have experience using a drone for this type of mapping and have advice on methods?
