Subject: steel tube going into boot on JD 50/60/90 drills -- tips to prevent rusting solid?

For those who run dry fertilizer thru their drills, you know the problem :-/  dang things rust solid and you end up destroying either the pipe/tube or the boot getting them separated.  Has anyone had success with creating some sort of barrier?  Dipping the end of the pipe in a liquified plastic? (with a plug to keep it from getting inside the tube)  Smearing silicone over the bottom end of the pipe?
