Subject: Small standby generator capacity

Nc Ks.
5500 watt generator we used to run furnace and few accessories in our old house during power outages. Old house had propane water heater though and this house has an electric. Tag on water heater says upper element, 4500 watts, lower element 4500 watts. Will my current generator have enough capacity or how big would I need to run the furnace, water heater, few lights and a microwave?
