Just got done bedding up the building before the big rain shower is suppose to come tomorrow and Wednesday. Thought I would snap some pictures of my ewes and lambs. These are about ready to be weaned in two weeks and the others will be in 5 weeks. Then a couple of pictures of my last mature ewe lambing. These are some lambs out of a couple rams from Frecking Polypay. I got some really nice bucks from him this past year and can’t wait to see what the milk production on the ewe lambs will do here in a couple of years. The high milking rams I got went on my yearling ewes because I am needing more milk production for my booroola ewes.
I put the gene to the test this year and this is the results I got.
My yearlings lambed from 1/15-2/8.
47 head Zero flushing just ran teaser rams on the yearlings. Comparing booroola gene ewes to non booroola gene ewes.
Booroola drop was 82 lambs out of 26 ewes -315% drop
Non booroola was 38 lambs out of 21 ewes for a 181% drop
I think once I get the high milking ewe lambs with the gene they all should hopefully be able to raise there own offspring. Sorry it got so long.
