Subject: EXCEL & LibreCalc neither change cell color

East central Iowa

I have both Excel 2010 and LibreCalc on this computer.  I wanted to change the background color and the font color but it won't change.

If I double click on the cell in Excel the background color shows at the edge of the cell but as soon as I leave that cell the cell stays white.  I can't change the font color either.

I then tried LibreCalc and the results are basically the same.  In Calc the entire cell color changes when I double click but reverts after I leave.

I've tried formatting the cells in addition to using the ribbon that changes background and font color.  I've tried STYLES and nothing works.

It seems I remember this problem years ago had to do with the computer itself settings, that was on Vista, this is Windows 7.  I can't find an answer on the Internet, it just tells people that haven't a clue how to normally change colors.
