Subject: Curious if anyone has

West Salem, Illinois
So my intended crop rotation is corn followed by soft red winter wheat double cropped to soybeans. I’m toying with the idea to interseed red clover in February into the wheat, combine the wheat as usual. The idea would be to follow the combine with the hay mower, roll the stubble hay up and plant my double crop soybeans.

My thought is I could put up a good amount of hay doing this and still be able to get my second cash crop also. My apprehensions to this is I would have no straw, and worried how my double crops would do. Anyone have any thoughts or other concerns?

To be completely transparent, my farm consists of 50 tillable acres. I plant one crop on all my acres. I hire my harvest done. I have my own hay equipment. When I started row crops I landed on this crop rotation because I have three crops every 2 years, I bale a 2 year straw supply for my cow herd and typically on my corn year I chop some silage and try to stock pile as much hay as possible for the second year.
