Subject: US corn and soybean YOY production change

Centre county Pennsylvania, USA

YOY production change from USDA data is (very) noisy. Most of the noise can be removed by using a linear regression on the USDA production data series, then compute YOY production changes from the regression trend and slope. Bottom panel in attached charts show that linear regression based YOY production changes for US corn and soybeans. In both corn and soybean cases, linear regression trend "explained" 85% of USDA data.

Assuming the charts are correct, why is US soybean production increasing more than US corn production ?
