Mid Michigan | The ford truck thread got me remembering this episode of 60 minutes or 20-20 or something where these guys were running a scam on old people with motorhomes. They would pull up next to them and tell them they had smoke. When they pulled over one of them would crawl underneath and shoot oil all over the rear end of the motorhome and the and show them it was leaking really bad. Then they would take them back to the shop and the guy would pull the cover and had a rag loaded with broken gears he would empty into the motorhomes gear oil to make it look like the ring and pinion was damaged. They would tell the people they could fix it for like $2000 dollars and the people felt like they had better do it so they would agree. The guys would drain the oil and replace the gasket and refill with gear oil and send them on their way. They caught them with a "bait" motorhome and some hidden cameras. Got them red handed and arrested them for fraud. I don't know what happened to them but they should have made them dissapear for about 30 years of hard labor. | |
