Subject: Ratchet wire tensioner

Nebraska, The land of corn and cattle

Who all uses the ratchet type wire tensioners on the ends of barbed wire fence? Ive used the Ghallager ones on smooth Red brand  twisted wire (basically barbed wire without the barbs) and its worked well, just not sure if theyd work as well with the barbed and they are fairly expensive. I'm just wondering if someone has a little cheaper alternative. We use Red brand barbed wire and because the kinks, lots of ups and downs, and snow loads in a lot of places, theres no way we can run "banjo tight" with the wires, but it would be nice to be able to easily tighten wires when were out checking fence. I'm not a fan of the other gimmicks or whatever that kink the wires to tighten them

Also wondering if anyone uses springs on the fence (barbed) in areas that you know is going to have a lot of snow load, and if it helps. have some fences that are easily buried and Ive seen the drifts another 5ft on top of the fence.
