Subject: 15" corn

45 miles southeast of KC
The past two years I've tried 15" corn. I gained a small yield bump in corn but also like the way 15" beans no till into the 15" corn stalks. However, I have a lot more corn lodging in the narrow rows even though I plant the same population, varieties, and fertility as 30" rows. Just wondering if this problem had popped up for anybody else?
In the course of researching the only potential explanation I could find had to do with the ear leaf being more shaded, causing the plant to cannabilize itself, reducing root strength. I will add that when the corn goes down it is late in the season, usually about black layer and falls over at the ground. No trouble with stalk strength.
Trying to decide on row width for this year so any thoughts are appreciated.
